Crochet Baby Bib

Crochet Baby Bib – free crochet pattern for a quick to make baby bib, crochet a few in a variety of colours, have one for every day or give as a gift, you can never have to many bibs.

Materials

50 grams of King Cole Cottonsoft DK in main colour
50 grams of King Cole Cottonsoft DK in contrast colour

3.50mm Clover crochet hook

TENSION – 5htr and 3.5 rows of htr’s measures approx 1 Inch

Baby Bib – Using main colour yarn, make 42ch loosely, (RS) work 1htr in 3rd ch from hook, 1htr into each ch to end. Turn. (40htr + 2ch)

Row 2 – 2ch, 1htr into each htr to end, 1htr into top of 2ch. Turn.

Rpt last row once. Fasten off.

Row 4 – Join in contrast, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each htr to end. Turn. (41dc)

Row 5 – 4ch, * miss 1dc, 1tr into next dc, 1ch, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, miss 1dc, 1tr into last dc. Turn. (20, 1ch spaces)

Row 6 – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each 1ch space and tr to last 4ch to turn, 1dc into 4ch space, 1dc into 3rd of 4ch. Turn. Fasten off. (41dc)

Row 7 – Join in main colour, make 2ch, 1htr into each dc to end. Turn. (40htr + 2ch)

Row 8 – 2ch, 1htr into each htr to end, 1htr into top of 2ch. Turn.

Rpt last row eleven more times. Fasten off.

Row 20 – Join in contrast, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each htr to end. Turn. (41dc)

Row 21 – 4ch, * miss 1dc, 1tr into next dc, 1ch, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, miss 1dc, 1tr into last dc. Turn. (20, 1ch spaces)

Next Row 22 – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each 1ch space and tr to last 4ch to turn, 1dc into 4ch space, 1dc into 3rd of 4ch. Turn. Fasten off. (41dc)

Next Row 23 – Join in main colour, make 2ch, 1htr into each dc to end. Turn. (40htr + 2ch)

Rows 24 & 25 – 2ch, 1htr into each htr to end, 1htr into top of 2ch. Turn.

Shape Neck – (First Side) 2ch, 1htr into each of next 10htr, turn leaving 29htr and 2ch un-worked.

Next row – 2ch, 1htr into each of next 9htr, 1htr into top of 2ch Turn. (10htr + 2ch)

Starting with 2ch, work 3 more rows in htr on these stitches, turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.

Second Side – Return to neck edge and un-worked stitches, miss 19htr, rejoin main colour yarn to next htr, make 2ch, 1htr into each of next 9htr, 1htr into top of 2ch. Turn.

Starting with 2ch, work 4 more rows in htr on these stitches, turning at the end of each row. Fasten off. (10htr + 2ch)

Edging – With RS facing join contrast colour to right shoulder (neck edge) 1ch, 2dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each htr across shoulder to 2tch, 3dc into top of 2ch, work 43dc evenly into row ends down the first side of bib, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch along cast on edge, 3dc into corner, work 43dc evenly into row ends up second side, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each htr along shoulder to 2tch, 3dc into top of 3tch, work 7dc evenly into row ends down first side of neck edge, 1dc into each of next 19htr, work 7dc evenly into row ends up second side of neck edge, 1dc into base of 1ch, ss to first dc. Turn. Fasten off.

Next Row – Join in main colour, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, make 41ch, (First Tie) 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end, (40dc) 1dc in same corner, 1dc into each dc around neck edge to next shoulder, 1dc into corner, make 41ch, (Second Tie) 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end, (40dc) 2dc into same corner, 1dc into each dc along shoulder, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc down first side, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc along bottom edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc up second side, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc along shoulder, 1dc into base if 1ch, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Next Row – 1ch, (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) into base of 1ch, * miss 1dc, (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) into next dc, * rpt from * to * across shoulder, down side, along bottom of bib, up second side and across second shoulder, ss to first dc on base of tie leaving neck edge un-worked. Fasten off.

Finishing – Sew in and tie off all loose threads. Decorate with motif (optional)
