Worked in one piece starting from yoke.
Using colour 1 make 57ch, (RS) 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into the next 6ch, (front) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into next 8ch, (shoulder) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 19ch, (back) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 8ch, (shoulder) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 8ch. (front) Turn. (62tr + 3ch)

Row 2 to 9 – 3ch, * 1tr into each tr to 3tr group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre tr on 3tr group, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre tr on 3tr group, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch.

You should have 126tr + 3ch at the end of Row 9. Fasten off. Turn.

Row 10 – (Divide for Armholes) Join in colour 2, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 16tr, 2dc into next tr, miss 26tr, 2dc into next tr, 1dc into each of next 37tr, 2dc into next tr, miss 26tr, 2dc into next tr, 1dc into each of next 16tr, 1dc into top of 3ch, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn. (79dc)

Row 11 – With RS facing join colour 2 with a ss to a dc under any of the arms,  make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * tr2tog (see abbrev) into next dc, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, tr2tog into dc, ss to first dc on beginning of row. (you will work over the slip stitch seam on the front of yoke). Turn. (40, tr2tog)

Row 12 – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 1ch, miss tr2tog, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last tr2tog, make 1ch, miss tr2tog, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (40, 1ch spaces and 40dc)

Row 13 – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * tr2tog into next 1ch space, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 1ch space, work tr2tog into 1ch space, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt Rows 12 & 13 until eight tr2tog rows have been worked from yoke or work measures approx 9 inches from shoulder. Fasten off. Turn.

Button/Buttonhole Bands

Neck Edge & Button Band – With RS facing join colour 2 with a ss to lower front edge on right hand side of opening, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 18dc evenly into row ends up to neck edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch along starting ch edge, 3dc into corner, work 18dc evenly into row ends down left hand side of neck opening to end. Turn.

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to neck edge. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work one more row of 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off.

Buttonhole Band – Return to first side and with WS facing working from neck downwards, join colour 2 to first dc, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of next 6dc, * rpt from * to * once, make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of remaining dc. Turn. (3 buttonholes made)

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc and 2ch space to end. Turn.

Hood – With colour 2, make 62ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (61dc)

Row Two – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * tr2tog into next dc, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (30, tr2tog)

Row Three – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 1ch, miss tr2tog, 1dc into next ch, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (30, 1ch spaces)

Row Four – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * tr2tog into next 1ch space, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.

Rpt Rows Three & Four until 11 tr2tog Rows have been worked in all from beginning or work measures approx 6 inches. Fasten off.

Join in colour 1, rpt Rows Three & Four once. Fasten off. Turn.

Join in colour 2, rpt Rows Three & Four once. Fasten off.

Finishing – Fold hood in half and over sew or slip stitch cast on edge together, with RS facing and colour 2 work 54dc evenly along neck edge. Fasten off. Turn.

Attach Hood to Sweater – Missing button/buttonhole bands on either side of neck opening, slip stitch or over sew through row of dc on neck edge on sweater and front loop of dc along neck edge on hood. Fasten off.

Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn, sew buttons on to correspond with buttonholes.
