For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn
I have used:-
200 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in color 1
50 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in Color 2
Or
7oz of Worsted Weight #3 in color 1
1.75oz of Worsted Weight #3 in color 2
4.00mm Clover crochet hook
3 Small Buttons

Crochet Coat and Ski Hat
Coat – Worked in one piece starting with yoke.
Using color 1 ch55, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in the next 6ch (front), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in next 8ch (shoulder), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in the next 17ch (back), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in the next 8ch. (shoulder), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in the next 8ch (front). Turn. (60dc + ch3)
2nd Row – ch3, 1dc in the next 8dc, 3dc in next dc, 1dc in next 10dc, 3dc in next dc, 1dc in the next 19dc, 3dc in next dc, 1dc in the next 10dc, 3dc in the next dc, 1dc in the next 8dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (68dc + ch3)
3rd Row – ch3, 1dc in the next 9dc, 3dc in next dc, 1dc in next 12dc, 3dc in next dc, 1dc in the next 21dc, 3dc in next dc, 1dc in the next 12dc, 3dc in the next dc, 1dc in the next 9dc, 1dc in top of ch3, Turn. (76dc + ch3)
4th Row – ch3, 1dc in the next 10dc, 3dc in next dc, 1dc in next 14dc, 3dc in next dc, 1dc in the next 23dc, 3dc in next dc, 1dc in the next 14dc, 3dc in the next dc, 1dc in the next 10dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (84dc + ch3)

8th Row – (Increase and divide for armholes) ch3, 1dc in next dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each next 2dc,* rpt from * to * to first dc of 3dc group, 2dc in dc, 1dc in centre dc of 3dc group, skip next 22dc, 1dc in next dc, rpt from * to * to first dc of next 3dc group, 2dc in dc, 1dc in centre dc of 3dc group, skip next 22dc, 1dc in centre dc on next 3dc group, rpt from * to * to end working last dc in top of ch3. Turn. (85dc + ch3)
Commence with Skirt – ch3, skip 1dc, * (3dc, ch1, 1dc) in next dc, skip 2dc * rpt from * to * to last dc and ch3, skip last dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn (28 shell groups)
Pattern Row – ch3, * (3dc, ch1, 1dc) in ch1 space on each shell group to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.
Rpt Pattern Row 11 more times, making 13 shell group rows in all. Fasten off.
Join in color 2 yarn and rpt Pattern Row once. Fasten off.
Join in color 1, rpt Pattern Row once. Fasten off. (15 Pattern Rows in all from yoke)
Sleeves x 2 – With color 1 and WS facing rejoin yarn in side of dc underarm where you divided for the armholes, ch3, 1dc in side of dc, 1dc in each of next 22dc, 2dc in side of dc on opposite side of sleeve, sl st to top of ch3. Turn. (25dc + ch3)
Next row – ch3, skip 2dc, * (3dc, ch1, 1dc) in next dc, skip 2dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, (3dc, ch1, 1dc) in next dc, skip 1dc, sl st to top of ch3. Turn. (8 groups)
Next Row – ch3, * (3dc, ch1, 1dc) in ch1 space on each shell group to end, sl st to top of ch3. Turn.
Rpt the last row five more times making 7 shell group rows in all. Fasten off.
Join in color 2 and rpt last row once, 8 shell group rows have been worked in all from yoke. Turn.
Cuff
Next Row – (Dec) Join in color 1, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in next dc, skip ch1 space, 1sc in next 2dc, * dec 1sc (see abbrev) over next 2dc, skip ch1 space, 1sc in next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 1sc in last dc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (26sc)
Next Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn.
Rpt last row twice. Fasten off.
Front Edging
With color 1, WS facing and starting at neck edge on right hand front, work 47sc evenly down right front to end. Turn.
Next Row – (Buttonholes) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc up front edge to bottom of yoke, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in next 6sc, * rpt from * to * once, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in last sc. Turn. (3 Buttonholes)
Next Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each ch2 space and sc to end. Fasten off.
With WS facing join color 1 to left hand side at bottom edge, working from lower edge upwards, work 47sc evenly along to neck edge. Turn.
Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work two more rows in sc. Fasten off.
Collar – Join in color 1 to first dc after buttonhole band on WS side of ch3, * skip 2dc, (3dc, ch1, 1dc) in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc, skip 2dc, 1dc in last dc. Turn. (16 shell groups)
Rpt Pattern Row from skirt twice. Fasten off.
Join in color 2, rpt Pattern Row once. Fasten off.
Join in color 1 and rpt Pattern Row once. Fasten off.
Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes. Fold back collar.
Ski Hat – With color 1 ch71 loosely, sl st to first ch to form a ring, ch3, 1dc in each ch to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn (70dc + ch3)
Starting each row with ch3 and slip stitching to top of ch3 on beginning of each row, work 11 more rows in dc stitch. Turn.
Next Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each dc to end, sl st to first sc. Turn. (71sc)
Brim – Working in the back loop of stitch only, ch3, skip 2sc, * (3dc, ch1, 1dc) in next sc, skip 3sc, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn. (17 shell groups)
Next Row – ch3, (3dc, ch1, 1dc) in ch1 space on each shell group to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn.
Rpt last row once. Fasten off.
Join in color 2 and rpt last row once. Fasten off.
Join in color 1 and rpt last row once. Fasten off.
With WS facing, centre back seam, join color 1 to right corner on starting chain edge, ch1, working through both sides, sl st along top to close open edge, ch10, join with a sl st to the ch1 made at the beginning of the row (the right corner) to make a loop. Fasten off.
Finishing – Weave in and trim off loose ends of yarn, turn through to RS. Fold brim onto front of hat, tuck in sides to form a triangle.
